Explanation:

When considering the importance of Jesus Christ there is not only one viewpoint that must be measured, there are various perspectives that need to be taken into account in order to reveal the real importance of Jesus. Firstly, he needs to be looked at through a Christian point of view that labels him as the ‘Christ of Faith, secondly Jesus needs to be viewed from an historical standpoint to justify his existence.
Jesus’ mark on the early Christian church can be evaluated into the practice of Christology; the continuing task of interpreting the significance of the person of Jesus Christ to the faith of the Church. The most basic beliefs of the Christian church are that the Resurrection was a divine action, and that the Resurrection confirmed Jesus’ position as Messiah, Lord, and the Son of God. His importance within the faith of Christianity is still highly recognized. Jesus is still at the centre of the Christian belief system, along with being the central character in all sacraments, practices and prayer. Jesus’ place within this faith is primarily based on the synoptic gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Through these gospels the information that Jesus lived in Palestine, built up a very strong support while gaining followers, was put to death by the Romans for causing a disturbance of the peace, and for resurrecting and ascending into heaven are all included within these gospels. However, the lacking of historical evidence within the chronology of these events is why Jesus also needs to be viewed from an historical perspective also.
The Church’s doctrine accepted the true humanity of Jesus and viewed him as a real historical figure. His actions and teachings, as recorded in the gospels, were acknowledged as authentic and reliable for spirituality. Contrary to this, when modern science began to become more common, the miracles that were undertaken by Jesus began to be questioned, due to the fact that they generally violated the laws of nature. Biblical researchers are investigating to discover whether the historical Jesus was purely an Israelite prophet who had proclaimed a radical message, or whether he truly was the Christ of Faith. Although when analyzing the historical placing of Jesus of Nazareth two specific viewpoints have to be considered, it is important in the underlying result of how his impact has affected the world.
His influence can be looked at through a mythical interpretation or it can be thought through an historical interpretation. Either way his effect on modern day beliefs and practices can be thought of as phenomenal and unparalleled. Jesus can be named as the most influential person in world history due to the fascination that surrounds him worldwide, and the continuity of this that seems undiminished.

Historical Perspective:

Over the last several centuries debates have been occurring regarding the chronology, central message of Jesus’ preaching, his social class, religious orientation and historical existence. It has been said by biblical scholars that Jesus was a self-described messiah, as the leader of an apocalyptic movement, as a healer and as the founder of an independent religious movement. However, most contemporary historians have considered the historical Jesus to be an independent Jewish man whom was a radical political and social reformer who did not intend of founding his own Church. The main argument surrounding Jesus is whether he is a Christ of Faith of Jesus of History, this brings about the viewpoint of whether the there is physical proof of Jesus’ existence. Although the gospels have been regarded by Church doctrine as authentic and valid pieces of information to validate his existence, there have only been few historical sources that refer to a Jesus living within that particular period of time. The best reference can come for Tacitus who states that “Christus, the founder of the name [Christians], had undergone the death penalty in the reign of Tiberius, by sentence of the procurator Pontius Pilate,” these sources are important as they help historians rationalize whether the existence of Jesus was based on spiritual analysis or was true history.
Overall, the historical perspective of Jesus of Nazareth is still being highly questioned, the historical Jesus vs. the Christ of Faith will forever be a dispute until the true figure of fascination is shaped.
